ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Alberta government has relaxed a few of the limits on gatherings, particularly outdoor gatherings.
However, the limits on worship services continue for now.
We will continue to work from home, and will continue to have church services online only until the end of January.

Church is not stopping though!!
We encourage you to be involved in a small group. Small groups can meet online using Zoom or other platforms,
or can meet in the church sanctuary or fellowship hall. If your group would like to meet in the church building,
or if you are not involved in a small group and would like to be, please contact the church office.
We are checking phone messages at least once a day and will get back to you.

--------------------

The Fellowship Bible Study (Sylvia's group) is meeting again on Thursday mornings at 10 am.

--------------------

If you would like to give to VAC online, we can receive Interac e-transfers at info@vegrevillealliance.org.
Answers to the security question can be sent to Byron James (Treasurer) or to the church office.

MOMENT IN MISSIONS

Missions Fest Alberta, usually held in February, has been postponed until 2022 because of COVID.
However …
Missions Fest Vancouver has come up with an online event January 29 – 31
https://missioncentral.pathable.co/
Picture
The SERVE stream of the Mission Central Conference is for everyone who loves Jesus and has thought, “I’ll never be a missionary.”

Come and experience the creative ways that the love of God is being expressed around the world. Grow your faith as you hear stories of the transforming power of Jesus. Be part of the larger Christian community as we intercede for fresh moves of the Spirit all over the earth.

SERVE (formerly Missions Fest Vancouver) will open with a Youth event on the Friday night. Then, on Saturday and Sunday, we'll have many mission agencies to get to know, 40+ seminars taught by missional experts, bird-of-a-feather discussions, prayer sessions and worship and teaching in our General Sessions.

Please Pray for Wycliffe Bible Translators

Please join us in praying for …
  • People and language groups who still live in Bible poverty, that God’s Word will reach them soon.
  • Open doors and open hearts.
  • The emotional, spiritual and physical wellbeing of ministry workers. They face huge obstacles, both human and spiritual.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Most of the mandatory regulations for the prevention of spread of COVID that were brought in by the
Alberta government before Christmas have been extended for at least two more weeks.

For this reason, we will continue to work from home, and will continue to have church services online only.

Church is not stopping though. We encourage you to be involved in a small group.
Small groups can meet online using Zoom or other platforms, or can meet in the church sanctuary or fellowship hall.

MOMENT IN MISSIONS

Pray for persecuted Christians in Nigeria.
Five Christians have been executed by an Islamist group after they were kidnapped on Christmas Eve from their village in Nigeria's northeastern Adamawa state.
The Islamic State West Africa (ISWAP), a break-away faction of Boko Haram, attacked the town of Garkida on Christmas Eve, looting and setting properties on fire. Amidst the attack, they abducted five Christian men. Days later, a video posted by the Islamic State's media channel Amaq reportedly shows the victims being shot dead from behind after they each mention their name and say they are Christians. A community leader confirmed to Open Doors the five men were members of the church that only a few days earlier had celebrated Christmas together.

During the attack at least two more people, including a 5-year old, were killed while many others fled and spent the night in the mountains. The largest church denomination in the region, the EYN, on its Facebook page posted photos of people returning to their homes the next day.

PRAY
  • Pray for the families of the victims, that they would be courageous in their mourning and trust the Lord to fulfill his purposes.
  • Pray also for those who continue life under the renewed onslaught of Boko Haram. Pray that Christians will remain firm in the faith and constant in hope despite the challenges.
Picture
Pray for peace in the West African country of Cameroon. Boko Haram militants have killed 14 people in an overnight attack in the town of Mozogo, in Cameroon's Far North region. The jihadist group has in recent days staged several attacks in the same region despite the government's claims of success against them. According to the mayor of Mozogo, Boukar Medjewe, local residents started fleeing to a nearby forest as soon as they heard that the attackers were approaching the town. A suicide bomber who hid among the fleeing civilians detonated explosives killing 11 people on the spot, before gunmen shot dead three others.

Cameroon is also dealing with conflict between the English-speaking and French-speaking regions. Militias have been fighting for secession since 2017.

MOMENT IN MISSIONS

The Fulani (also known as Fulbe in Fulfulde or les Peuls in French) are among the most widely dispersed and culturally diverse peoples in Africa. They form the largest pastoral nomadic group in the world. The nomadic Fulani are full-time cattle keepers who move about with their cattle for much of the year. In contrast, settled Fulani live permanently in villages and cities, and yet many still have a nomadic mindset and consider themselves to be nomadic. Virtually 100% of Fulani are Muslim.

Pray for our international workers currently serving among the Fulani, sharing the Gospel through storytelling, digging wells, and providing education and work experience for young girls, men and women alike.
Pray for the team in Senegal

Katie

I've lost all my earthly optimism
That it's all going to be alright, that the good will win this fight
Somewhere between youth and disappointments,
the dream became despair, the love became a lie.
Just now, I've reached the end of my line
Just now, I'm too tired to keep on trying

Hope it is rising, it's a sunrise for the end
Hope it is rising, and it's breathing for me again
Hope is rising, hope is rising, again.
Soon beneath the roses I will lie,
All the memories of my days, gathered to the sky,
Soon every work will find it's worth,
And all my strength returned, to the water and the earth,
Just when I reach the end of my life,
Just when my eyes dim out the last light.

Hope it is rising, it's a sunrise, for the end.
Hope is rising, and it's breathing, for me again

Hope is rising, Hope is rising, again. (x2)
