Hello! We're so glad that you're here!
Today we're beginning a new series that is similar to what your parents ro guradians are learning in church so that's kinda cool! How is your summer going so far? What have you guys been up to? Leave us a comment below to let us know what fun things you've been doing.. Before we get started this morning we're going to be learning a few new songs, so... you know the drill, hop on up, push play and join in these couple songs!!
Okay so this week we are beginning a series on the 10 Commandments! You may have heard about these before but its good to sometimes see them in new ways, and if you've not heard about them before this is going to be something fun for us to learn together!
The 10 commandments were things God tells us we must do to keep us safe and healthy. Perhaps safety makes us think about driving on a road. Since we’ll be learning about God’s rules that keep us safe and healthy, we’re going to be adding street signs to our road.
Street signs tell us the right thing to do to keep us safe, too.
This week we’ll learn God’s command that says that we should put God first. So we're going to be adding THIS sign to our road. If you'd like, you can draw a picture of a road and then click the above link to print off this weeks sign to add to it.
Above you can see we've added our new 'God First' sign :)
This street sign points up to remind us we put God first. That means he’s number one and we make him most important above anyone or anything. All of us know what it's like to be first, it can make us feel important. But today we're learning that we should put God first. It’s okay to like other things, but God should come first. What’s your favorite thing to do? Let’s see what happens when some animals make their favorite things to do their top priority—more important than anything or anyone else.
What was the problem with Peanut’s, Biscuit’s, and Shadow’s priorities?
Peanut, Biscuit, and Shadow rearranged their priorities. What would it look like to reprioritize your life to put God first? Rowley said it’s okay to have things we enjoy, but when we start being too focused on those things, it’s not good. When we give too much time and attention to something besides God, that’s worship. But God asked us to put him first and worship only him. Game
It’s fun to be the line leader and have other people follow us. Who wants to play a game of Follow the Leader right now??
**Help kids line up one behind the other, perhaps turn on some music and encourage kids to follow their line leaders around the room marching like soldiers. Every 30 seconds or so, have the current leaders go to the back of the line and allow the next kids in line to become the new leaders. **Let the new line leaders choose the new way to walk, or help them come up with ideas, such as the following: waving arms in the air like a tree, clapping, hopping like a bunny, twirling, hopping on one foot, walking backward. Continue playing as time allows. It’s fun to play Follow the Leader. When we follow people, we go where they’re going, and sometimes we do what they’re doing, too. That’s what we did in our game. Can you think about someone you want to follow and be like? Perhaps your mom, your grandpa, and older sibling or cousin? We have lots of people we can follow. When we put God first, we’re following him. We put God first by loving people the way he does. We put God first by praying and spending time with him. We can even put God first by coming to church to learn more about him. Activity
**For this activity you'll need to cut out pictures from a magazine, or you could draw them onto the piece of paper as part of your discussion.
**At the very top of the blank paper (or on several pieces of paper), write “Most Important.” At the very bottom, write “Not Important.” and in the center, write “Somewhat Important.” **If you have a magazine, cut out pictures of soap or shampoo, various toys or books, photos of families, animals, playgrounds, vehicles, various foods, or homes. Let's get started.... In the Bible, God gives us commands, or things he tells us to do so we can have the best life. One of God’s commands is that we put God first. That means God is more important than anyone or anything. This activity helps us to think about that. Let’s think about how important some things are. (Give each child a magazine picture or talk about something that kids think are important.) Look at your picture and think about how important that thing is to you. Is it really, really important, or is it not important at all? Help kids decide where to put it on the scale you have. Let’s look in the Bible to find out what one of God’s friends said was most important. (Acts 16:25)
"While Paul waited for them in Athens, he was very sad to find that the city was flooded with idols. He began to talk with the Jews and Gentiles in the synagogue. He also spoke to whoever happened to be in the marketplace each day. Certain philosophers engaged him in discussion too. Some said, “What is he trying to say?” Others remarked, “He seems to be a proclaimer of foreign gods.”
They took him into custody and brought him to the council on Mars Hill. “What is this new teaching? Can we learn what you are talking about? You’ve told us some strange things and we want to know what they mean.” Paul stood up in the middle of the council on Mars Hill and said, “People of Athens, I see that you are very religious in every way.As I was walking through town and carefully looking at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: ‘To an unknown God.’ What you worship as unknown, I now proclaim to you. God, who made the world and everything in it, is Lord of heaven and earth. He doesn’t live in temples made with human hands, nor is God served by human hands, He is the one who gives life, breath, and everything else. " The Bible tells about a time God’s friend Paul went to a place called Athens. He walked all over the city. What Paul saw as he walked around made him very sad. He saw fake gods everywhere. Fake gods are called idols. They’re pretend; they’re not real like our God is. Paul saw that people thought these pretend gods were very important. Even though the people in Athens thought the idols were important, Paul said, “The idols aren’t important at all.” “They’re pretend, and they can’t do anything for you. You made these fake gods, but the real God made you! The real God is the most important, and we put God first. The real God loves you and will take care of you.” The things on our scale, houses, family, fruit and vegetables, watever is on your picutre, theses things aren’t bad. They’re just not most important. God is most important and that’s why we should put God first. That means, we make it important to spend time with God. It’s actually more important to spend time with God than it is to go and play! but playing isn't bad either. We make it important to do what God says is right. It’s more important to do what God says is right than what a friend says, and we put God first by loving him more than anything! Game
Paul told the people in Athens that God made the whole world and everything in it. There are so many amazing things that God created. What’s your favorite thing God created?
Let’s play a game that's a bit like charades and see if we can guess some of God’s creations. (Print and cut one of the below sheets or write out on paper these items, have kids try to actu out each of the the items EXCEPT for the "ME!!" charade).
If kids know the answer they can guess with the phrase "Only God can make a __________."
Once you've tried to guess all of the items on our list, call the kids back together for one last charade. This creation is God’s favourite. They can sing and dance and praise him! Can you guess what this creation might be? If you guessed that God created people, you were right!!. Listen to this from Genesis 2:7.....
"The Lord God formed the human from the topsoil of the fertile land and blew life’s breath into his nostrils. The human came to life."
The Bible says God gave us breath. That means he taught our bodies how to breathe. No one else could ever do that! Only God could make us! God made everything in the whole world, even us. He’s definitely the most important, so we put God first.
Craft
Our days are full of all kinds of things to do. What have you already done today?
Maybe you've been out for a ride in the car, did you get dressed yet? Have you read a book, fed the dog, sung a song, washed your hands and face? Let's make something that reminds us to put God first in all the things we do each day. **Print off THIS sheet, or re-draw it on a piece of paper. Have kids colour the pictures and then colour the circles, or put stickers around the things they've done today. There are so many things we can do in our day, but we should make sure that we put God first. That means we make sure he’s an important part of our day. God can be a part of everything we do during our day. When we remember that God loves it when we’re kind as we play, that’s putting God first. When we thank him for our food, that’s putting God first. We put God first by taking time to talk to him. Let’s say a prayer right now and thank God that he’s with us every day. Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for all of the good things that you give us. Beds to sleep in, food to eat, friends to play with and animals to love. and while all of these things are really good, please help us try to remember to put you first. Amen Comments are closed.
